Etsy Sales and Offers for Pakistan Sellers: Sale Events, Promo Codes, and Renewals (2026)
A sale on Etsy is a tool, not a rescue plan. Etsy gives sellers four discount tools: sale events, promo codes, discounted bundles, and targeted offers, all managed from Shop Manager under Marketing, then Sales and Discounts. This guide covers how each tool works, the step by step setup for a sale and a promo code, the renewal fee that keeps listings live, and the margin check a Pakistan digital seller should run before discounting anything, so a sale brings buyers without quietly eating the profit.

The short answer: four tools, one margin check
Etsy gives sellers four ways to discount: sale events that show a reduced price to everyone, promo codes that only work for buyers who have the code, discounted bundles for buying items together, and targeted offers that Etsy sends to interested shoppers on your behalf. The tool matters less than the check that comes before it: work out what the discounted price leaves after fees, and only then confirm the offer. A sale that brings ten orders at a loss is worse than no sale at all, because it costs money and teaches buyers to wait for the next discount.
For a Pakistan digital seller, the cleanest use of sales is narrow and honest: a short event on a real occasion, a thank you code for a repeat buyer, or a bundle that genuinely saves the buyer money on a set they would buy together anyway. This guide shows each tool, the renewal cost that keeps listings live, and the mistakes that turn a sale into a shop problem.
The four Etsy discount tools
Sale events: a discount on display for a set time
A sale event puts a reduced price on the listings you choose, for the dates you set. Buyers see the sale price without entering a code, so this is the tool for a shop wide event, a seasonal push, or a clearance of slow listings. Because the discount is public, it should have a real end date. A sale that never ends is not a sale, it is your new price, and buyers learn to wait for it.
Promo codes: a discount only for buyers who have the code
A promo code gives a discount only when a buyer enters it at checkout. That makes it the right tool for a private offer: a code shared in a message, in your shop announcement, on social media, or with a repeat buyer. You choose the discount type, the eligible listings, and whether a minimum order applies. Codes let you reward a specific audience without cutting the price for every visitor.
Discounted bundles: a lower price for buying more than one item
A bundle discounts a set of items bought together. For digital products, the honest version of this is a themed set, for example a planner bundle or a full SVG collection, sold at one bundle price rather than as separate listings. Bundles raise the average order value, but only if the set makes sense together. A random bundle of unrelated files is a discount with no reason behind it.
Targeted offers: Etsy sends the code for you, to interested shoppers
Targeted offers are automatic codes Etsy sends to shoppers who already showed interest in your shop, such as a buyer who left an item in a cart, favourited a listing, or just completed a purchase. You set the terms once, and Etsy sends the offer to opted in shoppers. This is the closest Etsy comes to follow up marketing, and it works because the buyer already knows your product.
How to run a sale event, step by step
Step 1: open Sales and Discounts in Shop Manager
On Etsy.com, go to Shop Manager, open the Marketing tab, and select Sales and Discounts. This is where every sale, promo code, and targeted offer lives. Check what is already running before you create anything new, because two overlapping offers on the same listing can stack in ways you did not plan.
Step 2: choose Run a sale, then pick the listings
Choose to run a sale, then decide whether it covers all active listings or only selected ones. For a first sale, pick a small set: your best sellers or one collection. Discounting the whole shop at once teaches every buyer to expect a discount, and it makes the margin check much harder to control.
Step 3: set the discount and the dates
Set the discount type and value, then set a start date and an end date. A short, real window, for example a weekend or a week around a genuine occasion, creates a reason to buy now. An open ended sale creates no urgency and no reason to return later at full price.
Step 4: check the margin, then confirm
Before you confirm, run the margin check in this guide on your cheapest discounted listing. If the discounted price still covers the transaction fee, the listing renewal, and your time, confirm the sale. If it does not, raise the price first or shrink the discount. A sale that loses money on every order is not marketing, it is a leak.
Step 5: tell buyers, and update the announcement
A sale nobody hears about is a price cut with no traffic behind it. Update your shop announcement with the sale and its end date, and share it where your buyers already are. When the sale ends, update the announcement the same day, because an announcement advertising a finished sale tells buyers the shop is unattended.
Promo codes: the four rules that matter
Percentage off: between 5 percent and 75 percent, whole numbers only
Etsy allows a percentage discount from 5 percent to 75 percent off the list price, in whole numbers. For digital products, 10 to 20 percent is usually enough to move a hesitant buyer without giving away the margin. A 50 percent code on a 5 dollar file leaves almost nothing after fees, so save deep discounts for bundles or for clearing a product you are retiring.
Fixed amount off: a dollar amount, not a percentage
A fixed amount code takes a set dollar amount off the order, for example 2 dollars off. This works well for higher priced items, where a fixed amount feels concrete, and poorly for cheap files, where the same amount can wipe out the whole price. Always test the code against your cheapest eligible listing, not your most expensive one.
Free standard shipping: skip this for digital products
A free shipping code removes the shipping fee for the buyer. A digital product has no shipping fee, so this discount type gives a digital buyer nothing. For a digital shop, choose percentage off or fixed amount off instead, and leave free shipping for the day you ever sell a physical item.
New listings are not added automatically
If you limit a promo code to certain listings, new listings you create later are not added to that code on their own. You must edit the sale or discount to include them. Check this whenever you launch a new product during a sale, or your newest listing will sit at full price while everything around it is discounted.
Targeted offers: the three automatic codes
Abandoned cart offers
These go to shoppers who left one of your items in their cart without buying. The buyer already chose your product, so a small discount is often the nudge that finishes the order. Keep the discount modest: the buyer was already close, and a deep discount trains cart abandoners to wait for a code every time.
Favourited item offers
These go to shoppers who favourited a listing. A favourite is interest without commitment, so the offer should remind them what the product is and why it is worth buying now, not just cut the price. Pair the code with a listing that already shows the product clearly, because a discount cannot fix a listing the buyer did not understand.
Thank you offers after a purchase
These go to buyers after they complete an order, encouraging a second purchase. This is the most valuable offer a digital shop can run, because the buyer already trusts you and already knows your files work. A thank you code for a related product, for example the matching bundle after a single template, turns one sale into a repeat buyer.
Listing renewals: the cost that keeps a shop live
Listings last 4 months, then they expire
A listing stays live for 4 months from its start date, or until it sells. When that period ends, the listing expires and stops appearing to buyers until you renew it. A shop full of expired listings looks abandoned even when the seller is active, so renewal settings deserve the same attention as new listings.
Automatic renewal is the default on new listings
New listings are set to renew automatically when they expire, by default. You can turn this off and renew manually instead, in the listing renewal settings. Automatic renewal suits your core catalogue, the listings you always want live. Manual renewal suits seasonal or test listings you want to review before paying again.
Each renewal costs 0.20 dollars
Every time a listing is created or renewed, Etsy charges a 0.20 dollar listing fee to your Payment account. Editing a listing costs nothing, so fix titles, tags, and photos freely. The fee only applies when a listing is published or renewed, which is why dead listings that auto renew every 4 months quietly drain a shop.
A renewed listing keeps its history
When you renew a listing, it gets a new listing date and a new expiration date 4 months out, but it keeps its original view count, number of favourites, and web address. Renewal is therefore not a reset: a listing with real history keeps its proof, and a listing with no history stays a listing with no history, just newer.

The margin check: a worked digital product example
Take a digital product listed at 20 dollars. A 10 percent sale brings the price to 18 dollars. The 6.5 percent transaction fee on 18 dollars is 1.17 dollars, before payment processing and before the 0.20 dollar listing renewal that applies when the listing is renewed. The sale still leaves room, because the discount came off a price with margin in it. Now run the same check on a 5 dollar file at 50 percent off: the price falls to 2.50 dollars, and after the transaction fee and renewal, almost nothing is left for the work itself. The lesson is not that discounts are bad, it is that the same percentage means something very different at 20 dollars and at 5 dollars.
For Pakistan sellers, run this check in dollars, because Etsy charges and pays in dollars, then convert the result to rupees only to judge whether the effort is worth it. A sale that looks generous in rupees can still be thin in dollars once fees are taken, and fees are always taken in dollars first. The pricing guide walks through the full ladder, from entry price to bundle price, here: how to price digital products on Etsy from Pakistan.
5 mistakes that make sales backfire
Running a permanent sale
A sale with no end date stops being a sale and becomes your price. Buyers stop feeling urgency, and when you finally end it, the full price feels like a price rise. Give every sale a real end date, and let the price return to normal between events so the next sale means something again.
Discounting below the fee floor
A deep discount on a cheap file can leave less than the fees after the transaction fee and the listing renewal are taken. Always test the discount on your cheapest eligible listing, not your average one. If the discounted price cannot cover its own fees, the discount is too deep for that product.
Forgetting to end the announcement with the sale
An announcement advertising a sale that ended weeks ago tells buyers the shop is not looked after. Update the announcement on the day the sale ends, in the same session you close the sale. The same rule applies in reverse: announce a sale the day it starts, not a week later.
Offering free shipping on digital products
Free shipping is a real discount for physical products and an empty one for digital products, because no shipping fee exists to remove. A digital buyer who receives a free shipping code gets nothing and may feel misled. Use percentage off or fixed amount off for digital products, and save free shipping for physical goods.
Stacking offers without checking the total
A sale event, a promo code, and a targeted offer can land on the same listing at the same time. Before any sale starts, check what is already running on those listings and work out the combined discount. Two modest offers can add up to a deep one, and the margin check must be run on the combined price, not on each offer alone.
Frequently asked questions about Etsy sales and offers in Pakistan
How do I run a sale on Etsy?
Go to Shop Manager, open the Marketing tab, and select Sales and Discounts, then choose to run a sale. Pick the listings the sale covers, set the discount and the start and end dates, check the margin on your cheapest discounted listing, and confirm. Update your shop announcement with the sale and its end date, and update it again the day the sale ends.
What discount types can an Etsy promo code offer?
A promo code can offer a percentage off, from 5 percent to 75 percent off the list price in whole numbers, a fixed amount off the list price, or free standard shipping. For digital products, percentage off and fixed amount off are the useful types, because free shipping removes a shipping fee that digital products do not have.
What are targeted offers on Etsy?
Targeted offers are automatic codes Etsy sends to shoppers who already showed interest in your shop and opted in to receive them. The three types are abandoned cart offers for shoppers who left an item in their cart, favourited item offers for shoppers who favourited a listing, and thank you offers sent to buyers after a completed purchase. You set the terms once in Sales and Discounts, and Etsy sends them for you.
Do sales and discounts change Etsy fees?
A discount lowers the price the buyer pays, and the 6.5 percent transaction fee is charged on that discounted price, not the original price. The listing fee is separate: creating or renewing a listing costs 0.20 dollars, and editing a listing costs nothing. Run the margin check on the discounted price, not the list price, before you confirm any sale.
How does listing renewal work on Etsy?
A listing lasts 4 months, then it expires unless renewed. New listings renew automatically by default, and you can switch to manual renewal in the renewal settings. Each renewal costs 0.20 dollars and gives the listing a new expiration date 4 months out, while keeping its view count, favourites, and web address. A sold listing with quantity left also renews automatically, with the same 0.20 dollar fee.
Should a digital product shop offer free shipping?
No, because there is no shipping fee to remove. Digital products are delivered as instant downloads, so a free shipping code gives the buyer nothing and can feel misleading. Use a percentage off or fixed amount off code instead, and reserve free shipping for physical products, where the buyer actually pays a shipping fee.
Etsy sale kaise lagayen?
Shop Manager me Marketing tab kholen, phir Sales and Discounts select karen aur sale run karen. Jin listings par sale lagani hai unhen chunen, discount aur shuru aur khatam ki dates set karen, aur confirm karne se pehle apni sab se sasti listing par margin check karen. Sale shuru hote hi shop announcement update karen, aur sale khatam hote hi announcement bhi update karen taake purani sale ka zikr na rahe.
